Hey guys! I see the term, “superfoods,” popping up in conversations online and on my social profiles–Facebook, Twitter. So I wanted to take some time to explain
exactly what superfoods are and are not. There are plenty of superfood lists out there, but why should you be adding the items listed to your overall diet?
I’ve blogged before about nutrition, fiber, and fats to motivate you to eat healthier, but this time I’m going to actually show you too exactly what’s on my superfoods list and why. But first…
What Is A Superfood?
Generally speaking what’s call a “superfood” is a food that’s packed with lots of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. They may help reduce risk of chronic disease and are said to boost overall health when eaten regularly. They’re called “super” because they have a high concentration of healthy ingredients than the average.
Some of the items on a typical superfood list have been mentioned in previous posts including unprocessed fruits, veggies, natural foods, nuts, and whole grains. Superfoods also include meats including wild caught salmon, eggs, low fat yogurt, and lamb. Keep in mind every meat doesn’t meet the superfood standard, only those cows, chicken, etc. typically farm raised with free range and fed grass do.
